Absolute Truth
A lot of people are waiting on God, trusting that He will heal them, deliver them, free them. The reality, however, is that "you cannot leave up to God what He left up to you". To understand what that means, you not only have to get into the Word of God and get your mind renewed, but you have to believe that the Bible is the absolute truth and believe it enough to act upon it. You need to get to a point where you see it as the unfailing Word of God that can be trusted - NO MATTER WHAT!
I was listening to an interview with a well-known Evangelist the other day. He said he was preaching at a conference and was referring to basic Bible principles. While he was talking, he heard a comment coming from the audience that they didn't believe what he was saying to be true. He was shocked and asked what they meant, to which they replied that there is a lot in the Bible they don’t believe.
I think that might be indicative of many Christians today. They say they believe the Bible, but they measure their lives against what the Bible promises, only to come short and not see the results come to pass. Without saying it directly, they hint at the fact that because they don’t see manifestations of good things in their lives, then the Bible cannot be taken literally and is then obviously not all true.
In my own life I believe it is important to have at least one absolute truth that I believe about God that is a constant to fall back on when it feels like everything is falling apart. “Let God be true” is that constant. It comes from this scripture that is not commonly quoted:
Rom 3:3-4 (KJV) - 3 What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness? 4 Certainly not! Let God be true and every man a liar.
The Bible is true, God is true no matter what my life looks like, or situations look like. Even if everything around me seems like it is falling apart, God is still true and can be trusted.
We should measure our lives against the Bible as the only truth. If God said it, then that settles it. If the Bible says, “by His stripes you were healed” and you have a physical situation that doesn't agree with the Bible, then it should be settled that the Bible is true, and the symptoms are lying. We should seek the Lord to find out what we are missing in the area of healing rather than to just assume that He didn't heal us. It might be a fact that I have a situation in my body, but the truth according to the Word of God, is that I am already healed. Let God be true, even though the symptoms are still there.
If you listen to a teaching from the Bible and the interpretation of scripture seems to be like nothing you have ever heard, rather than to say the Word is not true, consider that perhaps the person preaching might be misinterpreting the scriptures. So in this case again, let God be true and let us find out if the preacher has deviated from the truth in the Word. One sure way to see if something that is being preached is true, is to find at least 2 or maybe 3 witnesses from the Bible to confirm (2 Cor 13:1). The Bible is able to interpret itself through different scriptures as the Bible books were written by different authors who have witnessed the same situations.
One area where people tend to be sceptical - and if I have to be honest, I was too - is when it comes to answered prayer. The Bible says in Mat 7:7 (KJV):
7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
Modern doctrines about prayer come because people don’t see answers when they pray. It is then easier to reason that perhaps God said no, perhaps He said wait a while… All these statements are a way to explain why what the Bible says, didn’t come true for them. Or, they say that God doesn't always answer everyone’s prayers. That is interesting if you look at what the very next verse says:
8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
The question to answer is where is the truth then? Is the Word true, or your experience? If the Bible says that everyone who asks receives, then it must mean everyone. There is obviously something here we are missing. No wonder the Bible says in Hos 4:6 - My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you as My priests.
In future blog posts I would like to unpack some of the things I have seen that are helping me make sense of the seeming contradictions. Because believe it or not, if the Bible says everyone who asks receives, then that is the truth. Imagine if you could start praying with confidence knowing that God always answers.
We have to remember that a lot of the things in the Bible work by laws. There are laws that govern faith, laws of the spoken word, laws of sowing and reaping and many more. Most people are ignorant of these laws and that is why things don’t work out for them. A law is something that will work for anyone who will use it correctly, regardless of who they are, how old they are or where they are from. A common example is the law of gravity. If you jump off a high-rise building, you will most probably be flattened. That is a law that does not discriminate. It will work even if you are not aware of its existence.
I am also seeing more and more that one of the big keys for things not working out as we think they should is in this verse:
2 Cor 4:18 - While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
We are focusing on our 5 senses thinking they show us the only reality, not realizing that things are moving in the spiritual realm. Learning more about this will help you see that what the Bible says is true. Just because you don’t see any change, doesn’t mean nothing is happening. That is where faith comes in. If we understand the principles and the laws better, we will start to see manifestation of what we are believing for - here and now.
My life is nowhere near perfect when it comes to walking in all the blessings of the Bible, but I am taking God at His Word - and He cannot lie. He is faithful to reveal the truth as we look to Him. Afterall, He said that He came to give us the abundant life. I want to live in the fullness of everything He purchased for me on the cross. What about you?
John 10:10 (AMPC) - The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
